This is not just a custom among the ethnic Tharus. Many young girls from all regions of Nepal are sent at quite young ages to work as servants. I work with a Canadian development organization based in Nepal and have met famiies from Nawalparasi, Gorkha and Dhankuta districts who have sold their daughters. That said, it is quite prevalent in the Tharu communities, and NYOF, along with many other international organizations (hers is not the only one) are working to rescue these girls and stop this practice.

Hi Terence,

Thank you very much for your interest in helping to transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in Nepal.

Even if you can't donate money, you can support Nepalese children by telling your friends and colleagues about NYOF. A very effective way to do this is to host gatherings such as cocktail parties or tea parties, and discuss the plight of impoverished Nepalese children and NYOF's efforts to save them. If you like, we can mail you brochures and recent newsletters that you can distribute.

Additionally, you can inform people in your email address book and your Facebook friends about NYOF and send them the link to our website (http://www.nyof.org).

Please contact us if you have any more questions.

Terence

Hello there,
This is Terence. I am from Malaysia. I am not married. I am not rich. I don't have much of a family as both parents have passed on in the last 18 months. It's just me and my sister at the moment. neither of us are married.
Under the URL slot above i have written my link to Facebook.
If it works, more of me is stated there.

I was wondering. How can a person like me be used to help.
I am all ears to the cause.
I hope i do get a reply.
I honestly want to help.
Finance is something i can't offer.
Should you(whoever it may concern) feel that there is something i can do, please, pleasse do drop me a line.

Thank you in advance for listening.

Regards,
Terence.
